Eagle County Proclaims September as Suicide Prevention Month

Resolution 2024-059, County of Eagle Suicide Prevention Month Proclamation

Declaring September as Suicide Prevention Month in the County of Eagle

WHEREAS; September is known around the United States as National Suicide Prevention Month and is intended to help promote awareness; and

WHEREAS; Suicidal thoughts can affect anyone regardless of age, gender, race, orientation, income level, religion, or background; and 

WHEREAS; According to the CDC, last year more than 50,000 people died by suicide; and 

WHEREAS; Suicide is the 11th leading cause of death among adults in the US, and the 2nd leading cause of death among people aged 10-24; and 

WHEREAS; Eagle County has lost too many residents to suicide and chooses to publicly support the importance of connection and looking out for each other; and 

WHEREAS; local organizations like SpeakUp ReachOut and Vail Health Behavioral Health are on the front lines of a battle to reduce stigma and shame surrounding the topics of suicide and mental illness; and 

WHEREAS, every member of our community should understand that as human beings we will all have struggles and its OK to ask for help; and 

WHEREAS, we encourage all residents to take the time to check on their families, friends, neighbors and coworkers to ask how they are really doing and let them know you care, and 

WHEREAS, we can all help to prevent suicide; and 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE COUNTY OF EAGLE, that September 2024 will be designated as “Suicide Prevention Month” in the County of Eagle.
